So yesterday Explained that my son was sent home due to that fact that he was sick. While my wife was in the school office, standing in line to check him out. She overheard the staff talking about 100 students called in sick and another 80-90 were sent home.  We were all told that papers would be sent home with students explaining the District opinion.

My Daughter finished out the school day, The paper that she was sent home said “if you child has had or current has a fever AND one of the listed symptoms do not send them to school.”

Symptoms were listed as Sniffling, Runny nose, coughing, fever, sneezing, watery eyes, and a whole list of additional things. And they even went as far as to say that unless you know for a FACT that your child has an allergy to dust, then don’t send them. But if they have an allergy to anything else you have to keep them home apparently.  Nearly every one of them could be caused because of a reaction to an allergy.

I have two issues with this:

First of all, what parent in their right mind would send their kid to school running a fever? Seriously, if your a parent, and you give a rats ass about your kids, you WOULD NOT send your kid to school running a fever. This has been practiced since the beginning of time. Unless you grew up in the ice age, and was just recently thawed from a block of ice, you should know to keep your kid home, if he’s running a fever.

Second since when does a sneeze or the sniffles constitute as part of swine flu?

Here is a list from the CDC’s (center for disease control) website

Symptoms of swine flu:

If you or a member of your family has a fever or high temperature (over 38°C/100.4°F) and two or more of the following symptoms, you may have swine flu:

  • unusual tiredness,
  • headache,
  • runny nose,
  • sore throat,
  • shortness of breath or cough,
  • loss of appetite,
  • aching muscles,
  • diarrhea or vomiting

Symptoms of seasonal flu:

Symptoms of seasonal flu include:

  • fever (often high)
  • headache
  • extreme tiredness
  • dry cough
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • muscle aches
  • Stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, also can occur but are more common in children than adults. Some people who have been infected with the new H1N1 flu virus have reported diarrhea and vomiting.

I Love that first of all the CDC itself says a fever PLUS TWO OR MORE of the following.. and you MAY… May is only might and might is only maybe and there is nothing in absolution in this, there is a fine line between Caution and paranoia. It’s the same line that exists between being a aware of something, and being obsessive compulsive. It’s the same Damn line. It’s the flu people, Look at the lists, the symptoms are 100% identical. If this was a normal season people would not be reacting this way. This is utter bullshit. Complete and total panic mode panic stricken oh-my-god-get-me-some-Xanax! People get the regular flu and die every year, This isn’t much different. People need to deal! Chaos doesn’t help anyone.

As for my boys who are both at home right now. They’re Peachey. Running around the house like a couple of healthy active kids.

eff you Alpine and your paranoia.
